Increase Muscle Strength & Fitness with Gotu Kola

Gotu kola may help improve physical strength in elderly patients.

Investigations in elderly populations indicate that antioxidant intake is positively related to physical fitness and ability to function. Poor fitness directly impacts quality of life and psychological stress (and vice versa), and low mental health scores and poor quality of life are associated with low levels of antioxidants in the blood.6

A recent clinical trial showed that elderly patients who were given gotu kola showed improved physical strength in the lower extremities after only two months of supplementation, which was sustained into the third treatment month. Interestingly gotu kola did not have the same effect on upper extremity muscles—possibly because the upper muscles have a lesser percentage of the type of muscle that has more blood vessels. Greater muscle strength also corresponded to better fitness levels in participants. These results suggest that gotu kola could help improve fitness, quality of life, and psychological well-being.6
